Lunch this week?
I'm free most days.
Hey, are we still on for lunch tomorrow? I can do 12:30 or 1.
What can I help with?
Write a Swift function that groups dictation entries by day.
Launch sync
We agreed on three things.
Hi Jane,
I'd like to set up a meeting at 5 p.m. on Thursday to talk about the launch. Does that time work for you?
Best regards,
Precis knows which app you're in, and in a browser, which tab. It shapes your words to fit with Apple Intelligence, on your Mac. Not what you meant? Click the capsule and Precis swaps in your exact words.
Where it works
Precis reads which app is in front, and in Safari, Chrome and Arc, which site. Then it writes the way that app expects: a quick reply in chat, a clear ask for an AI, a tidy list in your notes, a real email in your inbox.
Apple's own apps too: Mail, Messages, Notes, Xcode and Terminal. Anywhere else you can type gets clean, plain text.
How it works
In any app, wherever your cursor is. Or tap it once to keep talking hands-free.
Ums, restarts and “no wait” are fine. You don't have to talk like a robot.
Clean text lands at your cursor, shaped for the app you're in. Esc cancels.
Cleans up as you talk
Ums and false starts are gone, and “no wait” corrections are applied before anything is typed. Spoken email addresses, new lines and questions come out right too.

Questions
No. Precis turns speech into text on your Mac, and Styles are written by Apple Intelligence on the same Mac. It goes online only to download a speech engine once, to confirm your licence about every two weeks, and to check for updates. Once the engine is downloaded, you can turn Wi-Fi off and keep dictating.
Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later, including M2, M3 and M4) running macOS 26.5 or later, also known as macOS Tahoe. Styles need Apple Intelligence turned on in System Settings. Without it, Precis still types clean text; it just doesn't reshape it for each app.
Only for a moment. Listening takes almost no power. When you let go, your Mac works for about a second to turn speech into text, and one to three seconds more when a Style shapes it with Apple Intelligence, then it goes quiet. The first dictation after installing or updating takes longer while macOS prepares the speech engine for your Mac; after that it's quick. When your Mac is warm or in Low Power Mode, Precis eases off by itself.
Any app where you can type: mail, browsers, chat, code editors, Terminal and documents. Precis recognises Mail, Gmail, Outlook, ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor, VS Code, Slack, Messages, WhatsApp, Notes, Notion, Obsidian and more, so it can pick the right Style. In Safari, Chrome and Arc it reads the tab's title, so Gmail and ChatGPT work in the browser too.
With Parakeet, English and 24 European languages, including Spanish and French. With Whisper, 99 languages. Set your language in Settings and Precis uses the engine that knows it.
Download Precis and use all of it for 7 days. No card and no account. When the trial ends, buy a licence to keep dictating.

Precis cleans up as it goes. It removes ums and restarts, applies your “no wait” corrections, writes web and email addresses properly and shapes the text for the app you're in. It also learns your vocabulary, keeps a searchable history, and with Parakeet turns a sentence into text in about a tenth of a second.
To type into other apps, Precis uses macOS Accessibility, and the Mac App Store doesn't allow apps that do that. You download it from this site instead.
Yes. Precis is speech to text and voice typing for Mac. You hold ⌥ Space in any app, talk, and the text is typed where your cursor is, with the ums removed and the wording shaped for the app you're in. It runs on your Mac, not in the cloud.
Yes, on any Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 26.5 or later: MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, Mac mini, iMac and Mac Studio. Intel Macs aren't supported.
There's a free 7-day trial with no card and no account, then one payment and no subscription. If you need something free forever, Apple Dictation is built into every Mac. Here is what each free dictation app for Mac includes.
Precis is an on-device dictation app for Mac. You hold ⌥ Space in any app, talk, and clean text is typed at your cursor, shaped for the app you're in. Speech recognition and rewriting both run on your Mac. It's made by one independent developer, with a 7-day free trial and a one-time price instead of a subscription.
Yes, for Styles: the rewriting that shapes text for each app runs on Apple's on-device model, so nothing is sent to a server. Speech recognition uses NVIDIA Parakeet or OpenAI Whisper, also on your Mac. If Apple Intelligence is off, Precis still types clean text.
Hold ⌥ Space in any app on your Mac and start talking.
