Precis is a Mac app that turns speech into typed text, on your Mac. It's made by one person.
Precis is dictation for Mac, made by Nithish Govindasamy, an independent developer in India. There is no company, team or investor behind it. You hold ⌥ Space in any app, talk, and clean text is typed at your cursor. Speech recognition and rewriting run on your Mac.
Who makes Precis
I'm Nithish Govindasamy, an independent developer in India. I build, sell and support Precis on my own, and I use it every day for email, prompts and notes. There is no company, no team and no investor behind it. You can reach me by email or on X as @nithishgo. Mail goes straight to me; there is no support desk.
What Precis is
- Dictation for Mac. Hold ⌥ Space in any app, talk, and let go. Clean text is typed where your cursor is.
- It runs on your Mac. Speech recognition (NVIDIA Parakeet or OpenAI Whisper) and the rewriting that shapes text for the app you're in (Apple Intelligence) both run on the Mac. Turn Wi-Fi off and it keeps working.
- No account. The audio is deleted as soon as the words are typed. What the app and this site collect is on the privacy page.
- What it needs. A Mac with Apple silicon (M1 or later) and macOS 26.5 or later. Styles need Apple Intelligence turned on. Mac only.
How it's sold
Precis is sold direct from this site, not through the Mac App Store, because the App Store's sandbox rules don't let an app type into other apps through Accessibility. The app is signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
- Price: $19 once, for 2 Macs, with every 1.x update included. The first 100 copies are $19, then it's $29.

- Payments: handled by Dodo Payments, the merchant of record, which collects tax, sends receipts and issues licence keys.
What Precis is not
- Not open source.
- No analytics inside the app. This site counts visits, downloads and update checks without storing IP addresses; the privacy page says exactly how.
- Not affiliated with Apple, NVIDIA or OpenAI. Their names appear only to say what Precis uses and where it works.

Where does Precis send my voice?
Nowhere. Speech recognition and rewriting run on your Mac, and the audio is deleted as soon as the words are typed. The privacy page lists the few things that do go online: downloading a speech engine once, confirming your licence about every two weeks, and update checks.
