What changed in each release of Precis for Mac, newest first.
The current version of Precis is 1.0.2, released 4 October 2026. Precis updates itself through Sparkle, and every 1.x update is included in the price. This page lists what changed in each release, with build numbers and dates.
1.0.2 · (build 20261004.3)
- A licence key now pastes in clean: spaces and line breaks are removed and the key lands on one line.
- A Paste button sits next to the key field.
- The key field, Paste and Activate share one aligned row in Settings.
1.0.1 · (build 20261004.2)
- Precis spells its own name right by default: "Precis" and its common mishearings are built into the dictionary.
- The first-run practice asks you to say "Hello, world", so your first dictation is a real one.
- The app icon moved to Apple's Icon Composer format.
1.0 · (builds 20261003.2 and 20261004.1)
The first public release.
- Hold ⌥ Space in any app to dictate; tap once for hands-free, Esc to cancel. The shortcut can be changed.
- Clean-up that removes ums and false starts, applies "no wait" corrections, and reads "new line" and "new paragraph", spoken emails and numbers.
- Styles that shape the text for the app you're in: short and casual in Messages, a structured prompt in ChatGPT, Claude and Cursor, a list in Notes, an email draft in Mail. You can edit them and make your own.
- Two speech engines on your Mac: NVIDIA Parakeet (English and 24 European languages) and OpenAI Whisper (99 languages).
- A small capsule beside your text cursor that shows the app it will type into, and (from build 20261004.1) a thin strip above the Dock that is always there.
- Dictionary, Snippets, searchable History and Insights.
- A 7-day free trial and licence keys through Dodo Payments; automatic updates through Sparkle.
- Signed with a Developer ID and notarized by Apple.
Known limits
- When another app has "secure keyboard entry" on (password fields, some terminals), ⌥ Space can type a stray character such as "≈". Precis detects this, still reads the keys, and shows a note. A modifier-only shortcut avoids it.
- The first dictation after launch can be slower while the models load. Precis tells you when that's the case.
- Styles need Apple Intelligence. Without it, Precis still types clean text.
How updates reach you
Precis checks for updates itself through Sparkle and installs them when you agree. Every 1.x update is included in the price. The version you have is shown in the app's About window.
